Ground School

Your airport may or may not hold special ground school training, typically a 4-8 week class that is taught by pilots to walk you through all you need to know for your FAA Knowledge Test. You must pass this test in order to become a private pilot. If your airport does not hold ground school classes, there are online resources to help you prepare. King Schools online courses are highly recommended.

TIPS

  • Start your studying at least a month in advance of the test

  • ask your CFI about when and where is best for you to take your test

  • Your passed test is good for 2 years

STUDYING

Aviation clubs hold study groups often for the FAA Knowledge Test and also to answer questions for current pilots looking to stay fresh on their information. Be sure to join the 99s and WAI for these opportunities. Sierra-Tango Sisters will share information on study groups with you as well!
